A.B. Barrera is one of South Texas’ most respected business and civic leaders. His marketing and business acumen spans nearly three decades and the entire state of Texas. His ingenuity and creativity has changed communities and strengthened businesses.
A.B. Barrera is co-CEO of PMDG Marketing Communications, a full-service advertising agency and co-owner of AlphaGraphics Laredo, a full-service print center.
Barrera is a nationally recognized and award-winning marketing and public relations professional. His list of awards and accolades are what most marketing and public relations professionals strive much of their career to earn: the highly coveted MAXI Award, considered to be the Oscars® of retail and real estate marketing (International Council of Shopping Centers) and several Addy Awards from the American Advertising Federation. His other distinctions include certification by the Emily Post Institute as a Certified Business Etiquette Professional, and Certified Marketing Director (CMD) a designation he earned early on in his marketing career by the International Council of Shopping Centers (now Innovating Commerce Serving Communities).
His marketing and public relations expertise increased traffic, sales, and awareness at some of Texas’ leading retail and entertainment destinations; and he has worked for the industry’s leading retail real estate developers, including General Growth Properties, Simon Property Group, and CBL Properties.
His love of community has manifested itself into leadership roles throughout his career, proudly serving on the boards of the Laredo Little Theatre, the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, March of Dimes, Laredo Gateway Rotary, Laredo College Management Advisory Committee, Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau, Laredo Center for the Arts, Jalapeño Festival Association, and the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association.
Barrera is a member of esteemed national marketing organizations, including the American Marketing Association and the Public Relations Society of America. His advertising expertise has led him to serve as President of the American Advertising Federation Rio Grande Valley Chapter and most recently as 2nd Lt Governor of the American Advertising Federation’s Tenth District that encompasses the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Over the last 28 years, Barrera has been recognized for his civic and community involvement. He has been honored with over a dozen local and regional awards and recognitions.
